JUBILEE celebrations will be in full swing in Colchester with a community picnic being held in Castle Park.
On Thursday, June 2, family, friends, and neighbours will enjoy food and live music from the British Army Band from noon until 4pm.
The event has been organised by Colchester Council alongside the Anti Loo Roll Brigade and Community 360.
Colchester’s military tradition will also be on show, with military vehicles set to be on display, and military units will be on hand to talk about them and answer the questions of any visitors.
Castle Park’s bandstand, refurbished to the tune of £94,000, will be officially unveiled by the town crier at 2pm.
The event will be free of charge for all members of the public.
The deputy mayor of Colchester, Tim Young, said he was avidly looking forward to the event as the community gets together for a national occasion.
He said: “I am delighted and honoured that the council is working with the Anti Loo Roll Brigade and Community 360 to ensure residents and visitors can enjoy this Community picnic for free.
“It will be a wonderful way to meet up with friends and celebrate the dedication of Her Majesty The Queen’s 70-year monarchy for the platinum jubilee.”
