TWO former Colchester United favourites will go head to head at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.

Phil Parkinson's Wrexham will take on fellow National League side Bromley managed by ex-U's goalkeeper Andy Woodman, in the FA Trophy Final (kick-off 4.15pm).

Parkinson, who managed Colchester to a historic promotion to the Championship in 2006, will be looking to see his side bounce back after they narrowly missed out on the title, last weekend.

Parkinson told the Wrexham Leader: "Some of our players have played there, it will be the first time for some.

"It is a day to savour, I really do feel that.

"Like I have said a few times, some supporters are still waiting to see their team at Wembley and some managers and players have never had the chance to go there.

"We have just got to relish the occasion.

"It is a cup final and winning trophies, whatever level you are at, it is what football is all about.

"We want to be getting back on that bus with the trophy on Sunday.

"There is an excitement around the lads days away from the game.

"Everybody wants to be involved in this game and we have got some tough decisions to make, even with having seven substitutes.

"We have got a few players to assess and they have got to be right to be selected because you can't play at Wembley with people who aren't right, and our season still goes on after this."

Gazette:

Woodman made 59 appearances for Colchester between 2000-02 and is looking ahead with relish to his team’s big Wembley outing.

He said: “I enjoyed a season-and-a-half playing at Colchester and I know Parky was a very popular manager there too.

“I’m really looking forward to what should be a great day out - Wembley, you can’t get any better than that!”

Bromley also have other Colchester connections, with Omar Sowunmi, Mark Cousins and centre-back Jack Cawley - son of former U’s favourite Peter Cawley - also part of their squad.
