FIREFIGHTERS are working to extinguish a café and a convenience store which are alight in Colchester.
Four fire engines are at the scene in the Sir Isaac's Walk and St John’s Street area and the road is partially blocked as crews tackle the blaze.
The fire brigade is asking all residents to avoid the area and to find an alternative route where possible.

Crews have also advised anyone living in central Colchester to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering their home.
A fire spokesman said: “Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a cafe and a convenience store on St John's Street in Colchester.
“Our control team have received a number of calls reporting smoke relating to this incident.
“We'll being you more information as soon as we're able to. Thank you for your cooperation.”

The fire service has closed the St John's car park but there is alternative parking available at the bingo hall, Essex County Council's travel department has stated.
