A SHOCKED community is reeling after a woman was fatally injured on a quiet residential street.
A murder investigation has been launched after the death of the woman at an address in Wickham Road, Colchester.
Police officers arrived at the scene at about 11.45am on Wednesday after calls came in reporting concerns for a woman’s welfare.
When they arrived they found she was seriously wounded. She later died at the scene as a result of her injuries.
Officers also found a man injured at the property who was taken to hospital and arrested on suspicion of murder.
Essex Police stated today the man is still in hospital.
Wickham Road and the immediate streets were quiet throughout the day today as a heavy police presence remained at the scene, with a property cordoned off behind police tape.
A mechanic, who works nearby to the address, said he was shocked to hear what had happened.
He said: “This thing doesn’t happen round here, it’s nice and always pretty quiet. No-one really seems to know what exactly happened.
“I just feel sorry for those involved. It’s unlike this area.”
A neighbour told the Gazette she didn’t know the woman who has died but said she was “sad” to hear the news.
Detective chief inspector Antony Alcock, who is leading the investigation, said: “A dedicated team of detectives are continuing to piece together the circumstances which led up to this incident.
“As part of that, officers are continuing to gather accounts from people who have come forward to speak to us.
“I would like to thank them for doing so and would again appeal to anyone who may have information on this incident to get in contact, no matter how insignificant you believe your information is.
“I would also reiterate that our inquiries so far suggest this was an isolated incident and there is no threat posed to the wider public in Colchester.”
Anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage related to the incident can contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number 42/139657/22.
