A PLAYGROUND which only reopened last week after extensive improvement works has been graffitied on by vandals.
The Silver Witch Green play area, Stanway, was the target of a three week project overhauling its equipment, with works completed last Wednesday.
Across the project, which saw similar improvements at Lucy Lane South, a climbing tower, aerial runway, swings roundabouts and seesaws were installed, as well as new seating and surfacing.
But vandals graffitied on the fresh facilities, leaving volunteers disheartened after securing funding from various grants.
A Stanway Parish Council spokeswoman said: “The Silver Witch Green Play Area was only completed last Wednesday and to have people graffiti it already is very disheartening given the amount of hard work it has taken to source the funding to provide the local community a brand new facility.
“Stanway Parish Council would be very interested if anyone recognises the graffiti tags, which is becoming an increasing problem in Stanway.”
The spokeswoman added the graffiti could fortunately be removed by hand at no cost other than staff time.
Parish council clerk Donna Tristam had previously stated the new equipment will be enjoyed by children and families “for years to come”.
