CHILDREN in north Essex could soon have better dental health, if Government plans to add fluoride to drinking water are accepted.
About £14 million will be made available to health authorities nationwide, and there will be consultation with NHS Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and the community before going ahead.
Fluoride has been added to drinking water in several areas of the country and studies have shown it to be a benefit, particularly for children.
At present, neither Essex and Suffolk Water nor Anglian Water - which serve the area - add fluoride to their drinking water supplies.
Dentist Stephen Pitt, of The Dental Studio in Bergholt Road, Colchester, said he believed the scheme would help.
