A man and woman have been banned from keeping animals after failing to get vet treatment for a cat suffering from a serious lesion.
Sylvia Snoep, 67, and Peter Snoep, 72, both admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal when they appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court.
The court was told the pair, both of Keelers Way, Great Horkesley, had failed to get vet treatment for a cat called Spangles between December 1, 2021, and February 4 this year.
The cat had a "destructive and infiltrative lesion" on its face caused by a form of skin cancer.
Both Sylvia Snoep and Peter Snoep were handed 12-week prison sentences suspended for 12 months.
They were also banned from owning or keeping animals for life.
Subsequently two animals were removed from their care.
If either of them is found to keep any animal they will have it seized.
Sylvia Snoep was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and costs of £250.
Peter Snoep was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and costs of £250.
