Drivers get caught speeding across our county every day – and their cases can often end up in court.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says exceeding the speed limit and travelling too fast for the conditions were assigned by police officers as contributing to 27 per cent of fatal collisions in 2020.
In Great Britain in 2020, 202 people were killed in collisions involving someone exceeding the speed limit, with a further 1,368 people seriously injured and 2,803 slightly injured.
The penalty for speeding is often a £100 fine and three penalty points added to your licence.
You may be given the option of attending a speed awareness course if the police decide it’s appropriate for your offence and you have not been on a course in the last three years.
