A COLCHESTER estate has been reinvigorated after residents asked for improvements to be made as part of a community action event.

School House, in the New Town area, was visited by Colchester Borough Homes representatives as part of its Make A Difference Day.

Everyone from councillors and volunteers to contractors and community groupscame together at the site to listen to the views of occupants.

After residents highlighted what issues needed addressing, the teams worked throughout the day to rejuvenate several areas around and inside the complex.

Among other activities, the crews cut and cleared three gardens, installed six rotary dryers, painted fences, weeded a car park and conducted litter-picks in nearby roads.

Philip Sullivan, chief executive at Colchester Borough Homes, said: “The New Town event was a great success and really helped make a difference to the area. 

“Our teams are always out engaging with residents and these days build on this work as well as helping our tenants to be proud of their local neighbourhood.

“It goes to show what a positive impact public services, volunteers and organisations can have on communities, local pride, and people's enjoyment of their homes.”
