A HEADTEACHER has stated pupils remained safe after a large police presence dealt with an incident outside the school gates.
Concern grew after officers were seen outside Lexden Primary School, Colchester, at about 9am this morning.
Essex Police stated the incident was “nothing of concern” for those nearby and the force was responding to calls from a resident concerned about a family member.
The individual involved was then found in Collingwood Road, outside the school playground’s gates.
Lexden Primary School headteacher Alex Candler said no-one entered the school site during the incident in a letter circulated to parents, seen by the Gazette.
It read: “I would like to make you aware of an incident that occurred at the start of the day on Collingwood Road involving a number of police officers and an unknown adult.
“While I am unaware of the details of the incident, some of the older children witnessed the arrival of the police.
“While the event did not impact on the running of the school or the safety of the children, they may mention it when they get home.
“At the moment the word on the playground is that four robbers made an elaborate dash through the school field, which could not be further from the truth.”
