FORMER Colchester United loanee Corie Andrews has signed for National League club Torquay United.

The 24-year-old, who made 11 appearances for the U's last season, has linked up with the Gulls following his release by AFC Wimbledon at the end of last season.

Andrews will link up with former Colchester midfielder Tom Lapslie, who joined Torquay last summer.

Torquay manager Gary Johnson told the club's website: '“Obviously Corie is a lot older, and a lot more experienced (than fellow new signing Ollie Tomlinson), he’s got great pace and we play the sort of game that will suit him, because he likes to get in behind.

“He has a very good work rate, and he suits our group.

“He can be that number ten, and sometimes that number nine, but he does like opening his legs up and sprinting in behind, and I like that as well.”

Andrews joined Colchester on loan from AFC Wimbledon in January, having earlier in the season played his football at National League side Aldershot Town and scored nine times.

The former Crystal Palace striker came off the bench to score at Salford City, in Wayne Brown's first game in interim charge.

Andrews won the U's Goal of the Month award for January for his excellent strike, at Moor Lane.

In total, he made 11 appearances for the U's but only three of those were starts.

Andrews had been at AFC Wimbledon since February 2021 and will now be looking to recapture the form he showed for Aldershot in the National League, last season.
