FORMER Colchester United attacker Luke Gambin is back in League Two.

The ex-U's player has signed for their division rivals Sutton United, after returning from his spell in Malta.

Gambin made his debut for Sutton in their friendly draw with Charlton Athletic, on Saturday.

The 29-year-old is now back in English football following his departure from Maltese League champions, Hamrun Spartans.

The Malta international spent the second part of the 2020-21 season on the books of Newport County and helped the team to reach the play-offs.

He joined Newport having found his opportunities few and far between at Colchester, at the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

Gambin had signed for Colchester in the summer of 2019, on a two-year deal.

He linked up with the U's when he was released by Luton Town, after his contract expired at Kenilworth Road.

Gambin made 50 appearances during his time at the JobServe Community Stadium, scoring twice.

But the attacker found game time difficult to find and managed only 15 league starts for the U's, during the last two seasons.

Gambin started at AFC Wimbledon before moving to Barnet in 2009, as a trainee.

Gambin helped the Bees to promotion in the National League in 2014/15, as they returned to the EFL.

He made 132 appearances for the Bees before leaving them to join Luton in 2017 and helped the Hatters make the play-offs, before joining Colchester.

In total, he has made more than 200 appearances during his career, to date and will now be aiming to shine in League Two with Sutton.
