GARDEN waste collections have been suspended amid concerns for worker safety during the heatwave.

Colchester Council stated its garden waste service will be suspended tomorrow due to the extreme weather, but hopes it will return on Wednesday.

Residents have been advised to take their waste back in and re-present it during their next scheduled collection day.

A council spokeswoman said: “We’re very sorry, our garden waste service will be suspended tomorrow due to the extreme heat.

“Our crews will be out collecting all other recycling and rubbish as usual, but this decision has been taken for their safety.”

Those affected are being told to still put all other bins out by 7am as usual and the council has urged residents to not present more than four white sacks or their wheelie bin on the next collection.

“We’re working hard to ensure collections from Wednesday can take place as normal,” added the spokeswoman.

“Please do not log your garden waste as a missed collection this week.

“We understand this will be frustrating and inconvenient, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
