A man who failed to buy a ticket for a £2.80 train journey has been landed with a £700 bill.
Elliot Shutt, 31, of Buchan Close, Braintree, failed to purchase a ticket for the journey between Colchester Town and Colchester station on May 18 last year.
At Colchester Magistrates’ Court the case was proved in his absence.
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £2.80 compensation.
He must also pay a £34 victim services fund and £620 prosecution costs.
