THE grandfather of a “loving and kind” young woman who was fatally stabbed to death has called for her killer to never be released from prison.
Mary Wells lived with her grandparents in the USA following the death of her mother in 2017 and losing contact with her estranged father.
In a statement read to Chelmsford Crown Court, the 21-year-old’s grandfather Joseph said he will never forgive Adam Butt for what he did.
He stated: “I cannot explain how upsetting and traumatic Mary’s [killing] has been for me. Mary was about to start college and I know she would’ve made something of her life.

“She was an important person in my life. It was difficult for me to let her travel for long periods of time, but I trusted her.
“The violence Mary suffered in her final moments is too much to think about. She didn’t deserve to be killed so young and in such a way by someone she trusted.”
The heartbroken grandfather added: “I would feel content if Adam was never released, it’s the only way to protect others from him.
“I will never forgive Adam for what he has done to Mary. It will be on my mind for the rest of my life.”
