VISIT COLCHESTER has composed a list of free events activities and attractions in Colchester, in order to ensure families can get the most out of the summer holidays.
Colchester has plenty of free attractions to offer, from Hollytrees Museum, to the Natural History Museum and the Firstsite art Gallery.
Some of the best events and attractions taking place over the next few months include:
Invasion Colchester, the annual celebration of pop culture.
The event encourages people to come dressed up in their best fancy dress and features characters from the likes of Starwars, Ghost Busters, Dr. Who and Harry Potter.

Firstsite Colchester has plenty of free drop in art sessions, running until August 26.
The sessions take place Monday – Sunday from 10.30am – 2pm.

Colchester Garden Festival will take place from July 21 to August 22.
This month long event includes a mixture of free and paid events, from workshops, public installations, podcast recordings and shows.

Colchester Eco-Festival will take place on Saturday, September 3, from 11am to 5.30pm.
The free event will include over 70 stalls, children’s activities, music, dance and theatre, workshops and food and drink stalls.

The annual Free Family Fun festival will take place in Castle Park on Saturday, September 24, from 11am – 4pm.
The event will include bouncy castles, a BBQ, a dog show, live music and much more.

There are also sports activities in order to entertain children over the summer, with fun sports activities on the Firstsite lawn in town centre.
The free activities are for families that require additional support during the school holidays, including those that qualify for benefits-based free school meals.
