A MAN'S death is being treated as unexplained after police found a body when they were called to concerns for a person's safety.
Essex Police and East of England Ambulance Service paramedics were called to Nayland Road in Colchester shortly before 5pm on Wednesday.
The emergency services attended the scene, near to the Wildeve Avenue and Boxted Road roundabout, following reports of a concern for a person's safety.
Upon arrival, the body of a man, whose age has not been confirmed, was discovered and pronounced dead at the scene.
Later in the evening, eyewitnesses described seeing forensics teams in the area and a police cordon was put in place while investigations were carried out.
Dave Read, a shocked resident from Colchester, said he saw police tape surrounding a secluded area of trees while travelling home.
He added: "There were four police cars, people in white suits and the place was tapped off.
“It is not a regular thing you see in Colchester and is the last thing you expect to see on the way home.”
Essex Police has remained at the scene for more than 12 hours and a cordon remains in place.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and his death is currently being treated as unexplained. Officers remain at the scene and a cordon is in place."
Martin Goss, Colchester councillor for Mile End, said he was litter picking in the area this morning.
He said: “The officers asked me to keep away from the bushes and were ensuring people did not get too close while it is still a crime scene.
“My thoughts are with the family because any loss is sad and regrettable under any circumstances.
“Our best wishes are with the family members of the deceased at this time of stress and mourning and their privacy should be respected.”
The East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
