ELDERLY care home residents were treated to a spirit-lifting live show in their living rooms when an experienced musician paid them a visit.
Inigo Mikeleiz, who plays the accordion, recently performed at Crouched Friars Residential Home and Barchester Woodland View, both in Colchester.
He also stopped by The Oaks, Freda Gunton Lodge, Woodlands For Ladies and Abberton Residential Home.
He was enlisted as part of an initiative entitled Living Room Live which was launched by charity Roman River to give music to those who are unable to get to a concert.
Inigo, who is an active promoter and champion of his instrument of choice, has previously played at BBC Proms, the Union Chapel and the Royal Albert Hall.
As a chamber musician, he is a member of the Diphonon Duo, along with Greek violist Michael Iskas, and the Duo Giuliano-Mikeleiz with Canadian cellist Daryl Giuliano.
He also performs with Unicorn Frequency, a six-piece band led by Romanian violinist Bogdan Vacarescu as well as being involved in numerous other musical projects.
During his performances at the Colchester care homes, Inigo gave the older music-lovers an experience they will never forget.
Alison Webb, activities co-ordinator at Fred Gunton Lodge said: “Music is a big part of our home here.
“Inigo was very well received by our residents, and they were very impressed with his music.
“We are very grateful to Roman River for bringing quality music to people who are unable to attend concerts.”
Charlotte Bazgaou, producer at Roman River, was thrilled to give the beauty of live music to care home residents in Colchester.
“Covid 19 has severely impacted people living in care homes, and so it was really wonderful to be part of a project that put smiles on everyone’s faces, both residents and care home staff,” she said.
“The music played by Inigo was a real hit. He is a brilliant international accordionist, so we were really lucky to have him work with us on this project.
“We would like to thank EALC Community Initiative Fund who have generously supported Living Room Live, bringing joy to members of our community who cannot easily access live music.”
