MESSAGES of sympathy and condolence have been left for the family of a child who died.
Detectives continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of a child after officers were called to Geoff Seaden Close, in Colchester, shortly after 10.20am on Sunday.
Officers arrived alongside the ambulance service, with paramedics working hard to save the child's life.
The young child, believed to be around the age of one, died after police responded to concerns for their welfare.
A police spokesman said: "Despite their best efforts, the child has sadly died.
"An investigation will now take place into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and a post-mortem examination will take place."
A man and a woman, both unrelated to the child, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and child neglect.
They have been released on bail until September 7 while the police probe continues.
The spokesman added: "Specialist officers are supporting the child’s parents at this time."
Dozens of Colchester readers met the tragic news with an outpouring of support and sympathy.
One said: "My heart goes out to the parents in this difficult time, thinking of you all and sending love to the family."
Another said the tragedy is "absolutely heartbreaking", adding: "Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this devastating time."
