STAFF from a power company have organised a special charity football match to honour the memory of a colleague who died after an attack.
Richard Day, 45, worked as a control engineer at UK Power Networks.
He died in February 2020, after an attack in Ipswich town centre.
Mr Day was found lying on the ground by police, who administered first aid until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead two days later.
A post-mortem examination determined that he had suffered a traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by the tearing of an artery on the left side of his neck.
A 17-year-old admitted manslaughter and was sent to a Youth Offenders' Institution to serve three years and ten months.
Mr Day's colleagues from the Colchester and Ipswich branches will pay tribute to him with a football fixture at 7.30pm on Friday October 14 at Brantham Athletic Football Club.
All funds raised from the charity event will go to Victim Support, an independent charity that is dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents.
The support charity helped Richard’s friends and family after he died.
Adam Spurling, a network manager who was a friend and colleague of Richard’s, said: “He loved football and was a loyal supporter of Ipswich Town.
“Richard was a well-liked and respected colleague to those of us playing in and supporting the forthcoming charity game.
“He was a close friend of mine and I feel this game is a fitting way for us to remember and pay tribute to our friend and colleague, while raising money for an important charity who helped his family and friends in their time of need.”
