COLCHESTER Zoo has revealed visitors will no longer be able to hand feed its elephants.
Zoo bosses say upcoming temporary changes in their protocols and procedures mean the opportunity will be removed for the foreseeable future.
Bookings are still available until September 15 when the change comes into effect at the Maldon Road attraction.
A statement reads: “We are aware of the popularity of this experience, therefore, would like to give you advance warning of the change.
“Any bookings affected by this change will be contacted by our team.”

When contacted by the Gazette, a zoo spokeswoman stated there is no confirmed date for when the popular experience will return to the park.
The news will come as a disappointment to many, with families previously having to donate £20 to the zoo’s operating fund for the experience.
It contrasts previous years, where visitors were handed food and could feed the gentle giants without needing to book a slot or offer a donation.
Up until September 15, those wanting to book the elephants can do so for time slots at 12.30pm or 2.30pm daily.
