A BID to build four new homes in a village has been rejected. 

An application to create the homes in Braxted Park Road, Great Braxted, was submitted to Maldon District Council. 

It included plans to remove two agricultural buildings and build two two-bedroom homes and two three-bedroom homes on the site.

But the proposal has been rejected by the council's planning team. 

One reason for the refusal was because of the site being disconnected from services and facilities with limited access to public transportation.

The council said that due to the increased need to own a private vehicle, this makes the development unsustainable.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The introduction of four residential dwellings and associated paraphernalia on the site would represent the inappropriate urbanisation of the site and would have a harmful impact on the existing character of the site and rural character of the area.

“The application does not secure the necessary financial contribution towards Essex Coast Recreational Disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy, or an appropriate mitigation strategy to overcome the impacts of the development on the European designated nature conservation sites is provided.”
