A CRASH involving a car and a motorcycle has resulted in a man being airlifted to hospital.
The incident took place yesterday evening in Drury Road, Colchester, with a member of the public saying they heard a huge crash at approximately 5.15pm.
The road was then closed for more than two hours whilst emergency services – two ambulances and two ambulance officer vehicles – were on the scene.
An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance then landed near Layer Road within 15 minutes of the crash, before the motorcyclist was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, with what has been described as serious injuries.
Before emergency services arrived on the scene, however, members of the public took action to close off the site of the collision.
One member of the public, who lives in Drury Road, said they stood in the middle of the road to stop traffic and redirect drivers before police arrived.
Although exact details are yet to be confirmed by police, members of the public have told the Gazette the incident involved a motorcycle which collided with a silver Mercedes.
The motorbike then ricocheted into a parked car before skidding 40 yards down the road.
A picture sent in by a member of the public shows a motorbike wedged underneath a red Ford Fiesta, with the motorcyclist said to have been trapped underneath the car.
Essex Police has been contacted for comment.
