A COUNCIL boss has remembered Her Majesty the Queen following her death at the age of 96.
Colchester Council leader David King has paid tribute to Her Majesty, whose death was confirmed earlier this evening by Buckingham Palace.
He said: "This is a huge moment in our national life. The only monarch most have known.
"Like many I feel a huge sadness at her passing on, because she has been so central to national life.

"This is an era coming to an end for her long lifetime marked momentous change for our country.
"She navigated those changing times, from an empire long gone to our very different nation, with great skill and what helped is that few doubted her dedication, or decency.
"Her coronation vow was 'I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service' and for me she kept that promise.
"That's a great example for any who care about the world about them.
"That we should do our very best for each other and those we are here to serve.
"Now we can honour her service and memory, and wish her family, in their grief, like any family, solace and strength in such a difficult time."
