EMYR Huws is on the road to recovery from his serious ankle injury - after benefiting from help from a specialist biomechanics clinic.

The Colchester United midfielder has been sidelined after rupturing ligaments in his side's friendly against Millwall, in July.

Huws was injured following a challenge by Millwall defender Jake Cooper in the first half of the pre-season game, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The 28-year-old has been on a rehabilitation programme since then, building his fitness back up again.

Colchester opted against ankle surgery and Huws has been benefitting from London-based specialist clinic PFM who focus on biomechanics, the mechanics of biological and especially muscular activity.

The Wales international is now jogging again and progressing 'very, very well', according to U's physio Hashim Ali.

Writing in his programme notes, Mr Ali said: "Welsh star Emyr Huws is progressing very, very well with his heavy injury he picked up in pre-season.

"A full rupture of one of the ligaments in his ankle was something we considered surgery for.

"However conservative treatment has been working a delight.

"With help from specialist clinic PFM in London who focus on biomechanics, Emyr is back to jogging and working on his turning angles to make sure his ankle is strong enough for any change of direction, on any pitch, against any opponent."

Huws signed a one-year deal with Colchester in June, having made 12 appearances for them last season after joining them on a short-term deal, in January.

He spent four seasons at Ipswich prior to that, leaving at the end of the 2020-21 season following the completion of his contract.

Meanwhile, midfielder Chay Cooper is progressing 'better than expected' after his injury.

The former Spurs youngster is now out of his aircast boot and has been taking part in treadmill running.

The 20-year-old featured as a late substitute in Colchester's opening-day game at Northampton Town but has been sidelined since then.

Cooper has made five first-team appearances for the U's since making his senior debut for them in September, 2021.
