AN investigation has been launched after two people were reportedly caught tampering with the engine of a car a motorist was selling.

Essex Police received a report of criminal damage shortly after 6pm on September 7 which is said to have taken place at a property in Great Horkesley.

The force received reports two men arrived at a home in the area and poured oil into the coolant of a Volkswagen Golf GTi, which was for sale for £3,500.

The owner of the motorist, Danny Mangnall, 25, then bravely confronted the car ‘buyers’ before they left the area in a Volkswagen Passat.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “No injuries were reported as being sustained during the incident.

A number of enquiries are being carried out in order to identify the two men and the car they were driving.

“We need anyone who witnessed the incident or any suspicious behaviour in the area in the lead up to 6pm on September 7 to get in touch as soon as possible.
