It was another troubled day for the A12, with three accidents.
The first, and most serious, involved a blue Ford Mondeo car, a black Volkswagen Golf car and a black BMW car.
They were in collision between the two Kelvedon junctions on the Colchester-bound carriageway at 12.45pm yesterday.
The air ambulance was sent to the scene and a man, believed to be 60, was flown to Colchester General Hospital with a suspected head injury.
The northbound carriageway was closed while emergency services attended. It was reopened by 1.45pm. Traffic had already built up in the area, and problems remained for some time.
At about 3.30pm a black Honda motorbike was involved in a collision with a red Renault Megane car on the southbound carriageway, near to the Howe Green exit.
The motorcyclist suffered minor arm injuries in the crash, which caused traffic to build up.
At about the same time, north of Colchester, a Ford Transit van was also involved in a collision.
This accident took place on the northbound carriageway, near Ardleigh, and also caused traffic problems.
