TALK of re-introducing trams across city centre has received a resounding no from Colchestrians.
Councillors had suggested the move after a Freedom of Information request revealed 6,758 people were handed penalty charge notices for using North Hill in the year to July.
The bus lane was put in place back in 2013 with thousands of people being fined in the last nine years.
It has proved controversial over the years and back in 2014, £1million in fines were waived due to problems with the North Hill and Queen Street bus lanes.
It led to Green councillors Richard Kirkby-Taylor and Mark Goacher to suggest trams could be a solution to the issue.
But a poll by the Gazette has show readers do not back the move.
More than 700 responded to our question asking if trams would be a good idea.
Of these 60 per cent said it was a ‘terrible idea’ and 36 per cent said they would back it, while 4 per cent said they were not sure.
