Holidaymakers were left struggling to find a hotel room in Clacton, after visitors descended upon the resort for the bank holiday.

The busy weekend was a boost for hoteliers after tourists were kept away by poor weather during the Easter holidays.

The Esplanade Hotel, Lyndale Lodge Hotel, Comfort Hotel and Parade Hotel were all fully booked.

Paul Jones, manager of the Parade Hotel, in Marine Parade East, said: "We only moved into the hotel ten days ago, so we were extremely pleased with the bank holiday weekend.

"We were pleased with the occupancy levels and are now looking forward to the summer."

Seafront manager Tim Sutton said the long-awaited good weather, which reached temperatures of 17 degrees C yesterday, was also a boost for seafront traders.
