A breakers' yard which would recycle abandoned cars could be built in the Hythe.
A planning application has been submitted to Colchester Council to use land at Haven Quay, Haven Road, as a scrap metal waste recycling and transfer facility.
Most of the site would be used as a vehicle breakers' yard which would retrieve and dismantle abandoned or written-off vehicles.
The metal, waste oils and other materials would be processed on site and taken for recycling elsewhere, while non-ferrous materials would be stored and sorted on site.
Assessments into the impact of dust and noise have been carried out, but a report for the applicants by Amec Earth and Environmental states the area is used largely for industry and there would be little impact from the use of the site.
