A FOOTBALL club supporters group has been hailed a success.
The Jammers Fans Association formed earlier this year with the hopes of supporting and promoting Maldon and Tiptree Football Club off the pitch.
The group has supported initiatives including food bank collections for Maldon Food Pantry and an Easter egg collection for Home Start Essex.
They also donated money to Tiptree Volunteers to take their members on a day out to Frinton.
Association chairman Tony Williams said: “We started the association in January this year, but it came to light at the end of last year.
“I’m a local person. I have lived in Maldon for most of my life and have been following the club for about five years.
“So far, we have worked with the Maldon Food Pantry and have done two collections, one before Christmas last year and another a few weeks ago.
“We also organised donations of Easter eggs to Home Start Essex, which supports vulnerable families.
“We donated to the Tiptree volunteers which supports residents and some of the volunteers come to our games.
“We raise money through different initiatives such as the fans' association membership fee. We collect money through a Hundred Club and we collect money with matchday raffles.
“We’re doing remarkably well in terms of the money we’ve generated.
“We’re a non-profit organisation. We’re not here to make money - we’re here to support the club, fans and players.
“It’s supporting the community. We are hoping to engage with Great Ormond Street Hospital, Essex Air Ambulance and some big charities.

“And from the members themselves they can get in touch with the committee with ideas for charities to support.
“I’d like more supporters to come down to games. It’s a friendly atmosphere for home and away fans.
“We’ve met some great people and formed some great friendships - we’ve got some characters down there at the games.
“We’ve engaged with local businesses and they offer discounts to Jammers fan members.”
