A man was left blinded in one eye for life after he was attacked in a Jaywick street.
Scott Graham lost the sight in his left eye after he was hit with a bottle by James Barthelmy.
Mr Graham is unable to play sport or drive and is anxious about going out, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
Barthelmy was told by a judge he was a danger to the public for leaving Mr Graham with a "particularly grave injury".
Barthelmy had denied causing Mr Graham grievous bodily harm with intent but was convicted after a trial.
Judge Peter Fenn said Barthemly must serve three years and 330 days before being considered for parole. He said it was a sentence for the protection of the public.
