A £1 MILLION project to replace main sewer pipes to a water treatment works in Clacton is under way.
Anglian Water said it has had problems with pipes bursting between the underground pumping station at West Road and the Jaywick treatment works, off Jaywick Lane, in recent years.
The current pipework runs under houses, but the water company wants to replace them with a new three kilometre stretch of pipes along a new route away from homes.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said: "There have been some problems there historically and to reduce the risk of future problems we want to replace the pipe."
"It is an extensive project and final connections are not expected to be made until the end of September."
The new route for the pipe will go from the north of Clacton Airfield in West Road and will cross fields to Jaywick Lane, past Bishop's Park College to the Jaywick treatment works.
