THE winners of an annual parish fun-run are now hoping to achieve a world record as they run the London Marathon… tied together.
Heidi Shubrook, Nicola Darling and Holly LeWinton are going to be running the event as a four-legged race, tied to one another during the 26.2-mile run.
The trio will also be aiming to break the Guinness World Record at the same time.
Heidi said: “I ran the London Marathon last year, and Nicola has applied for 20 years but never got in.
“When I was running last year, I saw three people in front tied together so that is where the idea came from.
Heidi, from Dunmow, Nicola, from Braintree, and Holly, from Haverhill, will be raising money for children with cancer.
Heidi said: “I always raise money for children with cancer as I am a teacher, and a child at my school died after their battle, sadly, so that is our charity and we have raised about £3,000 so far.
“We always do crazy things together, so we look forward to the challenge.
“The Guinness World Records have given us five hours to beat to get the world record as a cut-off to give us something to strive towards.
“But we will be the first and only women to have run the race as a four-legged race so that in itself is amazing.”
Heidi and Holly also took part in the Finchingfield three-legged race at the weekend, winning the event.
Heidi said: “We saw it advertised but couldn’t make the first, but they moved the date after the Queen died and we had just finished our ten-mile run, so we decided to join in.
“We sort of felt like we trained for this so should win it, but up against huge men I was not hopeful.
"But we won and we did feel proud.”
