Essex suffered a crushing defeat after losing to Kent by 106 runs in the Friends Provident Trophy at Chelmsford.
The home side were dismissed for 124 in only 25.5 overs after losing two wickets in the second over, a blow from which they never recovered against a buoyant Kent attack.
Six Essex batsmen were leg before wicket victims and, when the fifth wicket fell with only 42 on the board, the home side's fate was sealed.
The biggest partnership of the innings came for the ninth wicket when Chris Wright and David Masters added 35 but, elsewhere, it was a sorry tale as the home side capitulated.
Andre Nel was the last man out for six on his final appearance for Essex this summer, before heading off to play for Mumbai in the Indian Premier League.
