New waiting restrictions will come into force in a village.

Some residents had objected to plans for the double yellow lines in Spring Road, St Osyth.

They said the proposals would not solve problems of congestion and felt the bottleneck there was no worse than further up the road, near the Bury crossroads.

But Norman Hume, county councillor for highways and transportation, overruled those objections and said the changes should go ahead.

At the moment, the stretch of road is the only one in the village without restrictions, which means several cars park there.

It is narrow and gets blocked easily, particularly in the summer when there are more visitors to the coast.

St Osyth Parish Council asked for the restrictions, saying: "The road narrows here and any car parked in that area seriously impedes through traffic."

County councillor Derek Robinson agreed and added: "I feel that a waiting restriction here would be beneficial to the flow of traffic, especially in the summer months.

"Spring Road is narrow at this point and parked vehicles do cause serious congestion, as this is the road down to St Osyth beach and caravan parks.

"This would be advantageous to residents and visitors alike."
