Stop that train! Commuters on what rail bosses claim is a little-used service face having to flag down a passing train after two services were made "request only" stops.
The 7.22pm and 8.08pm services from Sudbury to Marks Tey will no longer stop at stations between the two towns unless asked to stop by passengers.
Rail operator National Express East Anglia said the services are each used by just three passengers on average.
A spokesman for the company said: "The reason we now have request stops on these services is to help customers travelling from Marks Tey to Sudbury.
"We will be able to run a more punctual service if the trains only stop where they are requested.
"If someone is on the train, they can ask the guard, who will get the train to stop at the station.
"Passengers waiting at the station will be able to signal to the driver if they wish him to stop."
Derek Monnery, of the Essex Rail Users Federation, said he could not believe the service was so under-used.
