A new recruitment campaign has been launched to encourage people to become members of Essex Police Authority.

Tasks as a member of the authority include consulting and engaging with local people about what they would like the police to do, keeping in touch with national and local policing developments, representing the authority on other bodies and scrutinising everything the force does.

New members must commit to at least ten hours a week, and will receive an allowance and expenses.

Robert Chambers, chairman of the Essex Police Authority, said: "We are also looking for independent members who may possess expertise in areas such as management, business, finance, public service, marketing and PR."

For more information, call Graham Furnival on 01245 291604, e-mail graham.furnival@essex.pnn. police.uk or visit the Essex Police website.

Applications must be in by June 30.
