ROAD-RAGING motorists who collided on the A12 after driving aggressively have been banned from the roads.

Police officers attended the A12 at Marks Tey after the BMW and Ford Fiesta were involved in an accident on the London-bound carriageway.

Dash cam footage from another motorist showed the pair driving “closely and aggressively” towards each other in the moments prior to the incident coming to a head shortly after 3pm on February 10.

Their reckless feud ended in dramatic fashion when they collided and came to a halt on the major route.

Thankfully, no-one else was harmed.

Paulius Lapinskas, of Brimfield Road, Purfleet, was driving a BMW at the time of the incident while Craig Hammond, of Seabrooke Rise, Grays, was behind the wheel of the Fiesta.

The latter was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driver by the responding roads policing officers.

He denied drug driving and driving dangerously when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court but was convicted earlier this month and banned from driving for three-and-a-half years.

Hammond must also undertake 260 hours of unpaid work and pay a £240 fine.

Lapinskas, 36, admitted dangerous driving and was prohibited from getting behind the wheel for a year, as well as told to pay a £240 fine and undertake 80 hours of community service.

Following the prosecution, Sergeant Paul Gosling, of Essex Police’s Roads Policing Unit, warned law-breaking motorists that the law will catch up with them.

“Poor driving standards and intentional acts of dangerous driving will not be tolerated on our roads," he said.

“This incident not only placed the drivers in danger, but also the lives of others.

“My team and all other roads policing teams are dedicated to keeping our roads in Essex safe and will prosecute those who break the law and disregard other road users’ safety.”
