North Essex firms are being asked to join the Essex Police Authority.
The Essex FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) wants local business owners to apply to join the authority, which has three vacancies for lay members.
Ken Wickham, Essex FSB spokesman on Crime Against Business, said: "New legislation means that from October 2008, Essex Police Authority will need an extra three independent members, which is why there are currently advertisements encouraging people to apply for one of the places."
"The role takes around ten hours per week and the term of office is for four years. Participants - who must be over 18 - are entitled to an allowance plus expenses for the work they do."
Details are available from epa@essex.pnn.police.uk or call 01245 291600.
