HOLIDAYMAKERS have been warned to be on their guard against bogus holiday clubs.
Essex County Council trading standards officers have warned people not to drop their guard when they are on holiday overseas, with around 400,000 people falling victim to bogus holiday clubs each year and losing millions of pounds.
Scammers use unfair trading practices and high-pressure sales techniques to trick holidaymakers into signing up for expensive memberships that may not offer any real benefits.
