A HISTORIC bridge has been replaced after being out of use for the last two years following safety concerns.

Fen Bridge, which connects Dedham to Flatford has been out of use since June 2020 and was removed in January this year.

Pictures have now shown the replacement bridge in place.

It is expected to be ready for use in about two weeks.

The Fen Bridge is known to be artist John Constables favourite part of his journey during his school days.

The bridge has featured in multiple paintings of his from 1809 to 1817.

It is a link which many use to travel between East Bergholt to Dedham.

The bridge was removed last year after fears about danger to both people trying to cross it, and river traffic traveling beneath it.

Suffolk County Council was contacted for comment.
