A CARE provider which looks after adults with dementia and physical disabilities in their own homes has received a good rating following an inspection from Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors.

Allcare, which is based in the Commons, Colchester, supports a total of 27 people.

After receiving a good rating in its previous inspection last year, Allcare maintained its high standards by achieving the same rating when it was inspected again in August – although the quality of its leadership was found wanting for the second inspection running.

Specifically, officials said the leadership was inconsistent and that staffing issues meant carers were occasionally late for appointments with people they cared for.

Despite this, relatives were largely happy with the standard of care, with one commenting: "The office are pleasant and easy to talk with – I would say they are positive about the way that things are run, [and] I have never had to complain."

Inspectors found improvements had been made in other departments, however, with improved technology allowing for prompter calls and broader improvements across the service.

One relative added: "I'm very pleased with them all; staff are always on time and very good to me – I have regular carers and I get on well with them all."
