FIREFIGHTERS swapped one uniform for another when they held a school-themed charity disco.
About 350 people filled Colchester fire station for the event. It had been organised by the station's White Watch, with Blue Watch on duty during the evening.
The evening included a raffle, with 28 prizes donated by local businesses raising £723, bringing the total for the evening to £2,961.
Alan Smith, a firefighter on Colchester White Watch and organiser of the appeal, said: "It was probably one of the best dances the station has held - virtually everyone dressed up, which created a fantastic atmosphere.
"Everybody had such a great time, while generously raising a huge amount of money - it has to be the best way of doing charity work.
"The money collected on the night will make up the vast majority of the total amount we need for the trip.
"Everyone can feel proud of the support they have shown to a local charity and I would like to thank all involved."
The event raised money for the Trevor Porter Campfire Appeal, which pays for pupils from Kingswode Hoe School, in Sussex Road, Colchester,to have a five-day holiday.
