A DARING newlywed couple have decided to follow their dreams and build their own state of the art camper van after Covid left them without work.
Colchester based entertainers Chris Shannon and Sarah Fox have converted the Ford Transit van into their dream holiday home, building a large online following as they documented the process.
Chris is a singer and his wife, Sarah, is a dancer.
After seeing their work dry up due to lockdown, they decided to undertake the challenge to build their dream holiday van.
The pair decided they needed a new challenge to take their minds off of the increased anxiety and stress they had experienced during the period.
And their hand-crafted van isn’t stocked like the average camper.
Their camper van includers copper handles, trims and taps, as well as a shower with a toilet, mood lighting, a roof deck, Wi-Fi, solar panels a projector screen and a combi boiler.
Utilising Chris’ skills as a handy man, many of the features had to be built by hand.
With their van now completed, the newlyweds hope to set off across the UK and Europe within the next couple of weeks.
The couple launched a YouTube, Instagram and Facebook following with their handle meyouandourjourneyto, amassing more than 100,000 since then.
Chris said: “We’ve just set off on a trial period, recently visiting Bath and Alton Towers.
“We’d also love to drive around Europe and visit Belgium and Croatia.”
On the challenges the couple has faced whilst building their dream campervan, Chris said: “I suffered with various health problems, including having Covid twice.
“We had issues with finances, with difficulty trying to keep the project going, as well as getting married in the middle of the project.
“I think a lot of people would be scared to do what we have done. We have felt like quitting many times.
"It is such a hard challenge, but now we have built something we can explore the world in.”
