A SERIOUS assault which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning has seen Essex Police put out an appeal for witnesses.
Officers were called to Chelmsford High Street at 2.15am after an assault took place outside the Bar and Beyond nightclub.
The fracas is believed to have started inside where one man suffered minor injuries.
The fight then then resumed outside the premises, when one victim was then seriously assaulted.
The victim of the assault remains in hospital in a serious condition, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent remains in custody, and detective inspector Clare Wreford said in a statement police are now urging people to come forward with any information relating to the incident.
She said: “Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances of this assault and we are working with the nightclub to determine what has happened.
“CCTV enquiries have shown a number of people to be outside Bar and Beyond at the time of the assault and we are urging those people to contact us with any information, no matter how small to assist with our enquiries.”
Members of the public can contact the police on 101 to provide further details on the incident, and are asked to quote incident 135 of Saturday, October 8.
