PINT-SIZED trains steamed into a popular attraction as part of a special day for the public.

The East Anglian Railway Museum in Wakes Colne saw its successful Small Trains Day return last weekend.

On the day visitors were treated to a variety of small trains on display, as well as one of the museum’s full-sized steam locomotives which was in action with the freight train giving unlimited rides all day.

The miniature railway was also in operation giving rides.

Members of the Braintree and Halstead Model Railway Club were also on hand to show off a model railway display as well.

A spokesman for the museum said: “We had a great day with a good number of visitors coming to see the various model railway layouts, as well as rides on our miniature railway and full-sized freight train, hauled by one of our resident steam locomotives, Jubilee.

“We were very pleased with the visitor numbers which ran into several hundred across the day and it was busier than the same event last year.

“Visitors were also able to enjoy rides to Bures and back on a preserved Bristol K bus thanks to the AJN825 group.

“We received lots of positive feedback from our visitors either to our volunteers on the day, or via our social media accounts.

“This event is a welcome boost to us revenue wise, as this time of year we, along with other such attractions, start to have to wind down for the quieter winter season.

“This year we are conscious as is everyone about the cost of things like electricity, and in our case, coal increasing which adds pressures to running the museum, having held our admission prices for 2022 at 2021 level to allow families to enjoy a day out with us.

“As our summer season draws to a close, we still have our Steam Gala, Diesel Day and Day Out With Thomas over the half term.”
