Fire has ripped through a former school building, leaving it a charred wreck.
A total of 30 firefighters, including crews from Dovercourt, Manningtree and Frinton, fought the blaze at the former Harwich Primary School site, in Main Road, Harwich.
The blaze left 80 per cent of the roof destroyed and severly damaged the ground floor of the building.
Flames coming from the roof reached 15 feet high and firefighters had to use an aerial ladder from Chelmsford to deal with the blaze.
Residents were woken with the noise of fire engines rushing to the scene, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
