VOLUNTEERS from across Essex have helped to keep beaches clean as part of a UK-wide initiative.
The volunteers participated in the Great British Beach Clean at Coopers Beach in Colchester, Naze Marine in Walton, Valley Farm in Clacton and Highfield Grange also in Clacton.
Marine Conservation Society events saw 18 bags of litter collected, weighing a total of 7.4kg.
Jane Bates, head of sustainability and procurement at Parkdean Resorts, said: "We're committed to protecting our environment at Parkdean Resorts, and we're thrilled to participate in the Great British Beach Clean again this year.
"Last year's event was a huge success, and we're hoping for another fantastic turnout this year.
"We need to protect our seas and beaches, and we're thrilled to be able to contribute to the Marine Conservation Society's ongoing work."
Sarah Davies, corporate development manager from Marine Conservation Society, said: "We are grateful to Parkdean for taking part in the Marine Conservation Society's Great British Beach Clean.
"Every volunteer makes a difference by removing litter that would otherwise end up in the sea and potentially harm wildlife.
Earlier this year, Parkdean Resorts promised a reduction of the company's CO2 waste by 25 per cent and a 75 per cent reduction in waste to landfill.
