BORIS Johnson should return as Prime Minister, according to our readers.
Newsquest, which publishes the Daily Gazette, launched a poll asking readers who they would like to see become the UK’s next leader.
The question was posted to our followers after Liz Truss dramatically resigned yesterday after running the country for a record-breaking 45 days.
At the time of writing, 916 people had voted in the poll, with 30 per cent believing Boris Johnson should return to Downing Street.
Former chancellor Rishi Sunak, who lost out to Liz Truss in the last Conservative leadership contest received 23 per cent of the vote.
In third place was Penny Mordaunt, with six per cent of readers admitting they’d like to see her take the job, while Suella Braverman is the underdog with three per cent.
38 per cent of voters, however, said they would rather none of the listed politicians become Prime Minister, hinting perhaps in favour of a general election.
On the other hand, the bookies currently have Rishi Sunak as the favourite to replace the departing Liz Truss, should he decide to put himself forward for a second time.
